Woman sentenced in husband's death

MINEOLA - They were married just two months.

Kelly Forbes was sentenced to 21 years in prison. She faced up to 25 years.

The judge looked at Forbes and said to strangle someone, it takes time, it takes pressure and it takes intent.

A jury had convicted Forbes of strangling her husband, Michael Forbes, earlier this year.

She cried self defense against her newlywed husband, who has a past criminal history of rape and robbery.

But Forbes declined to take the stand in her trial, forcing jurors to draw their own conclusion.

Everyone agrees the death of Michael Forbes is a tragedy, but whether she acted out of fear for her life or intent to kill will always be argued.

Kelly Forbes spoke to the judge and she said she is sorry for her husbands death, but says he grabbed her first and she had to survive.

The judge told her that is not justified.
