CafeMom to launch $10M schools initiative

NEW YORK CafeMom is launching over 100,000 school groups so that all of the K-12 schools nationwide are represented on the site.

Moms can go online and join their local school group at CafeMom.com/schools, and all groups with 20 or more participating moms between August 25 and September 30 will get $100 for supplies, activities or whatever else they feel their students need most. This groundbreaking program provides an easy way for moms to stay informed about school news and events, talk about issues and concerns, and connect with other moms in their local school.

"CafeMom has become the largest online community for moms and we decided to harness that strength and enlist moms to help make a difference in schools across America," said Michael Sanchez, CafeMom CEO. "Every school is always looking for a little extra -- to help fund a class trip, buy supplies or splurge for a party and we're just thrilled to be able to help out financially and to tap into the power of moms in order to make an impact."

Launched in November 2006, CafeMom has more than 1.4 million members. It is the leading women's/parenting site on the internet -- passing mainstream sites like Oprah, iVillage, Babycenter, and MarthaStewart.com on key engagement metrics. According to comScore MediaMetrix July 2008 data, CafeMom is the No. 1 site for women on critical engagement metrics such as pageviews and average minutes/visit.

"I'm so excited about this program because it has already introduced me to so many other moms who also want to be more involved in their children's education," said CafeMom member Kelly Cagle. "In this day and age, where everyone is incredibly busy, it's so important for us to have an easy way for us to connect and stay updated on the events that take place in our children's schools and lives."

CafeMom features include fully customizable profile pages, a widget platform, mom-created groups, friends' networks, and strong privacy/anonymity controls. CafeMom advertisers include P&G, Walmart, Playskool, Disney, HP, Kraft, General Mills, Nestle, Unilever, JCPenney, Johnson & Johnson and Best Buy. CafeMom was co-founded by actor Andrew Shue and Michael Sanchez.
