Billionaire bribing students to drop out of college

PayPal founder Peter Thiel is betting $100,000 is a pretty good place to start.

The eccentric billionaire and venture capitalist is offering $100,000 grants to students under the age of 20 who drop out of college to start new businesses.

On one side, the structure of college is not always a great environment for the creativity necessary in entrepreneurship. Many tech company founders dropped out of college. Zuckerberg, Jobs, Ellison, Gates -- those onetime dropouts are pretty much running Silicon Valley. And plenty of people go thousands of dollars into debt to pay for school and then are forced to take jobs that pay well rather than pursue their passions in order to pay off the debt.

On the other hand, college is a great time for young adults to explore their interests and grow into adults.

Is this a good idea?
