Escaped pit bulls terrorize people in the Bronx

BRONX

The pit bulls, both a year and a half old, somehow got loose from a gated area on Prospect Avenue, near Boston Road, just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

They were reportedly roaming the streets for a half hour before attacking the two pedestrians, who tried to run into a driveway to safety.

The victims, a 55-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, were both bitten in the legs and feet. They were rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Responding police officers tranquilized the pit bulls.

The pit bulls were licensed. The owner, described as distraught over the incident, will not be charged.

The fate of the pit bulls was not immediately known.
