Tevy Weis, 8, gave her hair to help others. We went along for the haircut. We asked, "Do you remember the last time you had a haircut? Tevy said, "When i was six." That was two years ago.
Tevy got twelve inches of her gorgeous hair cut. Tevy's hair will be made into a wig. First, they measure to make sure she's got a 12-inch pony tail and then-- snip! snip!
Her proud mom Karen was there to record the event, saying, "because it's a selfless thing that she does and we think about all the mornings that she wakes up with all those tangles in her hair. It takes us a long time to brush it out."
The Weis family chose to donate Tevy's hair to Wigs for Kids because it is the only wig organization specifically for kids.
The recipients are all children, their hair loss can be for any reason, and the wigs are provided to the children for free.
Anyone can donate if they have 12 inches of unprocessed hair.
Both Tevy and her mother were moved by how difficult it must be for a child to experience hair loss. Tevy puts herself in their shoes, saying, "I'd get teased."
Karen says, "As we know, sometimes children tease other children and we don't want these kids to go to school having to deal with something like that."
Tevy likes her new short 'do as she gets ready to head back to her third grade class at Douglas Road elementary.
This isn't the first time this eight-year-old has given so selflessly. This is the third time that Tevy's donated her hair for Wigs for Kids. Every two years since she was four, young Tevy has donated her locks to kids just like her who need it.
She says giving makes her feel good.
