As the news spread throughout campus, students, teachers and parents at Nicolet Middle School could only shake their heads.
Three 13-year-old boys who go to the school are under arrest after one of them allegedly raped a classmate.
"I can't believe parents actually have 13-year old boys who would do that," said mother Roni Henson.
"I let my sister walk home once since she's been going to this school, and now I don't ever want to let her walk home," said Banning resident Amy Seek.
Seek lives next door to Roosevelt Williams Park, the playground where the alleged rape happened last Monday at about 5:30 p.m., less than a mile from the middle school.
"I was shocked, my heart was pounding, I was shaking. I'm like, 'Oh my gosh, that could have been my sister,'" said Seek.
Police say the 13-year-old alleged victim was at the park with a friend. When the friend left for home, the 13-year-old decided to leave too. She came across three boys, some of her classmates, who had just arrived at the park.
Police say what then started out as joking between the kids led to sexual fondling and groping.
Then, police say, the boys led the girl to the playground where one of them allegedly raped her.
Police say the girl did not report the incident until the next day. That's when police interviewed her at school.
The boys were suspended on Wednesday, then arrested on Thursday.
Because all the people are juveniles, very little information can be released. The suspects are probably in juvenile hall.
"I would appreciate if the justice system would actually do something, because these things happen far too much," said Edward Reid, father of a Nicolet student.
In the wake of the alleged incident, the Banning Police Department has increased patrols around the school.
