The burning contents included crushed cars and shredded metal in the scrap yard that was headed for recycling.
Since the tires and gas tanks were taken off the cars, firefighters said the smoke was not toxic and there was no threat of an explosion.
An employee at OmniSource says the company quickly evacuated and no one was hurt.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
By 6 p.m., crews managed to dig through the pile, dividing it up and stopping the spread of the fire.
We're told the fire destroyed $150,000 worth of scrap metal.
