MAPLEWOOD, N.J.

It happened at about 1:00 p.m. at MS& K Confectionary on Prospect Street in Maplewood.

Police say a gunman wearing dark clothing entered the variety store, produced a handgun and demanded that the storekeeper open the cash register.

The two got into a struggle, and the suspect shot the storekeeper once in the torso, then fled the store.
