High Line-type park plan moves forward in Queens

NEW YORK

The Wall Street Journal says organizers have raised $1 million for the design and planning phase. Next week they plan to launch a feasibility study.

The park would be called the QueensWay. It would stretch from Rego Park to Ozone Park. About a third of the tracks are elevated. The mid-section runs through the bottom of a ravine in Forest Park. The northern most section runs along an earthen embankment about 15 feet high.

The Trust for Public Land will name two firms to calculate the cost of the project, identify any environmental contamination of the site and evaluate the structural soundness of the rail trestles.
