NEW YORK (WABC) -- There's a unique new ballet class for mothers and their babies on Long Island, called 'Baby-Wearing Ballet'.
Taking the class with baby carriers strapped to their chests, it's a chance for new moms to keep fit with a workout while bonding with their newborns.
"It's not only a post-natal activity that moms get back into shape faster, they feel like they're doing some kind of exercise yet spending quality time with their child," said Erin Lopez of Variations Dance Studio in Huntington.
She said the class was the idea of one new mom who used to dance and was looking for a way to resume dancing.
"She said, 'I wish I could take my baby with us.' She said did you ever think of doing a baby-wearing ballet. So we researched it, what exercises would be the best," said Lopez.
"It's hard to get out and do things as a new mom, so here you're getting out, you're doing something like, hey look, I took dance class,'" she added.
