CARTERET, N.J. (WABC) -- Firefighters gained the upper hand on a stubborn house fire Monday morning in Carteret, New Jersey.
The fire broke out at about 5:30 a.m. a home on Frederick Street just off Roosevelt Street, and smoke was visible for at least a mile.
The one and a half story private house had heavy smoke through the roof.
Firefighters initially had the fire knocked down, but flames flared up again through the ceiling.
No injuries have been reported.
There is no word on the cause of the fire.
