NEW YORK (WABC) -- Tiles at a subway stop in Manhattan are being replaced, because their cross-design looks similar to a Confederate flag.

The MTA is modifying the tiles at the 40th Street entrance to the Times Square subway station. The agency says it is to make it crystal clear that the tiles do not depict the confederate flag.

The red, white and blue design, installed decades ago, was meant to reflect Times Square's status as the 'Crossroads of the World.'
