NEW YORK (WABC) -- The mayor's son opted to go alone - heading off to college without mom and dad.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday on Hot 97's "Ebro in the Morning" that he did not drive his son, Dante, to Yale University last weekend because the teen decided at the last minute to have his father's security detail drop him off instead.
Dante de Blasio is a freshman this year. He "wanted as little fanfare as possible," said his father.
"Dante has a mind of his own. He really wanted to go on his own, wanted to be his own man," said the mayor. "(But) he will be calling home for money."
The mayor and his wife will bring their son's belonging to him in a few days.
"Dante is a wise soul," said de Blasio. "We have no doubt he will not embarrass the family."
