1 critically injured, 1 in custody after stabbing in Englewood, NJ home

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (WABC) -- Police have a man in custody after a stabbing in Englewood, New Jersey, that left another man critically injured.

At 12:40 a.m. Thursday, police got a call regarding a disturbance at 242 West Palisade Avenue.

They found a 27-year-old man inside a multi-family house with a stab wound to the chest, bleeding heavily.

He was taken to the hospital, where it was determined that he had been stabbed in the heart.

The victim is listed in critical but guarded condition.

Another resident of the house, 23-year-old Jose Wilbur Hernandez, an illegal alien from El Salvador, was taken into custody a short time later a short distance from the scene.

Authorities say he stabbed the victim during an argument inside the house.

The suspect is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.
