Flu cases on the rise in Connecticut
The state health department says the flu is now considered "widespread" in the state.

CONNECTICUT (WABC) -- Health officials say the flu is now considered "widespread" across Connecticut, which means the virus has been detected in at least half of the state.

The state's health department says it's seeing a rapid and steady increase in the number of flu cases.

According to statistics, there were nearly 530 positive tests for flu reported between August 26 and December 22. That's up from 347 cases reported by December 15.

During that same time period, three people died and more than 160 were hospitalized.

The department says two of those who died were older than 65. The other was between 50 and 64 years old.

Health officials say most of the cases involve Influenza A, with very few Influenza B viruses being reported.
