SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A food deliveryman was on his way to work in Brooklyn on New Year's Day on an electric bike when a taxi opened its door and hit the cyclist, causing him to fall in front of an oncoming car.

Friends and family described 26-year-old Hugo Garcia as a hard-working man who put in 10 hours a day to support his family.

"He told me right away on the phone, he told me he's already dead," the victim's cousin, Edwardo Garcia, said.

Hugo was heading to work at a bagel and sandwich shop on Smith Street, and he was killed along a strip of Third Avenue.

"This guy, no drink, no nothing," brother Arbro Garcia said. "Just work and house. Work and house and save."

Hugo was pronounced dead at the scene.

So far, there is no criminality suspected in the case.
