Video shows suspect in hit and run crash near Queens Midtown Tunnel
MURRAY HILL, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police have released video of the man they are searching for in a hit and run crash in Manhattan.
NYPD detectives came back to a luxury high-rise on East 38th Street looking for even more video that will lead them to the driver of a late-model dark-colored Toyota Sienna
Authorities say the man behind the wheel of the van hit and critically injured a 60-year-old woman on Sunday morning.
In surveillance video, emergency vehicles are see responding to East 38th and Tunnel Approach Street.
The violent chain of events unfolded right near the entrance to the Midtown Tunnel.
It was right around 10:30 a.m. when the unidentified woman, who works as a live-in nanny on the 56th floor of the Corinthian was alone crossing the intersection. In a split second, as the van is heading east on 38th Street, making a right turn onto the feeder street to the tunnel, the driver hits the victim and keeps going. The woman was dragged down the block.
Then, in a bold move, the driver headed the wrong way on East 37th Street - it was closed to traffic. Then, he gets out, and calmly first moves an orange cone, then another barrier. He gets back into his car and takes off north on First Avenue.
Police are now trying to track down the suspect and that Toyota Sienna van, which has a yellow New York State license plate. The man lives in the same high-rise, and walks the same route all the time.
