JONES BEACH (WABC) -- The Nikon at Jones Beach Theater is Long Island's premier summer concert venue. It's setting on the water makes it the perfect place to listen to music under the stars.
"This year we've got tremendous classic rock coming through with Peter Frampton and Aerosmith coming in, and John Fogarty," says GM Adam Cintron, " I'm really excited about those - and we've got the return of country music."
Not to mention there will also be some Motley Crue and 9 Inch Nails, so there will be something for every taste this summer season. Everything will be all the more enjoyable after last year's Superstorm Sandy-driven 22-million dollar renovation.
Talk about an overhaul - the much maligned Nassau County Coliseum just down the road is about to undergo a transformation of its own, from a 41-year-old ugly duckling, to a state-of-the-art brand-spanking new arena.
"It will be beautiful - the nice thing is you will be able to see it from all over. The inside will be theatrical - it will look absolutely beautiful," says developer Bruce Ratner.
Ratner's $229-million makeover will include an amphitheater that converts to an ice rink, a bowling alley and restaurants. Ratner is also the man behind the successful Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
"I think it's going to be something that will really change in Nassau in the same way that I think Barclays has been able to do to Brooklyn," adds Ratner.
Of course, one big difference is that the Barclays Center has the Nets, while the Coliseum is losing the Islanders to the Barclays center. Ratner is convinced that will not be a roadblock to success.
"Not having a team has some negatives, but the positives are you have a lot of dates to create enormous theatrical opportunities again, whether it be concerts, whether it be Cirque de Soleil, whether it be Ringling Brothers or boxing," says Ratner, "there's a huge opportunity."
