Queens man accused of DWI with 10 passengers, 4 kids in car

HAVERSTRAW (WABC) -- A Queens man is accused of driving while intoxicated with two teenagers and two children in his car.

New York state troopers arrested 37-year-old Pedro Tapia, of Jackson Heights, on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Haverstraw Sunday.

Authorities say he had a total of 10 other people in his car, including two 15-year-old passengers and a 3- and 4-year-old.

He was pulled over after a license plate reader alerted officers of Tapia's suspended licence.

Additionally, none of the children were restrained with seatbelts or child seats.

Tapia was taken to the police barracks, where he was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of .10.

He is charged with felony aggravated DWI under Leandra's Law and was cited for numerous traffic violations.
