Community board approves pedestrian safety measures for Lincoln Center area

UPPER WEST SIDE (WABC) -- A community board in Manhattan has approved measures aimed at improving pedestrian safety.

Community board 7, which represents the Upper West Side, voted Tuesday night in favor of a proposal from the city Department of Transportation.

The changes will remove dangerous turns, create more direct crosswalks, and create protected bike lanes around the Lincoln Square bow tie, created by Broadway and Columbus Avenue.

The measures also include improving pedestrian signal timing and clarifying street markings.
