Uncommitted DNC delegates staging sit-protest in outside United Center

Delegates from the Uncommitted Movement are sitting outside the United Center calling for the DNC to include a pro-Palestinian speaker.

The delegates say the DNC denied their request to have a Palestinian speaker on stage, so they staged a sit-in

The DNC has, however, given the movement space to speak at several untelevised forums this week.

DNC delegates from Uncommitted Movement are staging a sit-in protest outside the United Center calling for a pro-Palestinian speaker.

At a press conference Wednesday, delegates said it was their hope that the convention would end with an even more unified Democratic Party. But the party refused to meet the Uncommitted Movement's larger requests.

"I'm an uncommitted delegate I was sent here to do the work on behalf of those uncommitted votes, who specifically voted uncommitted voters who need a change in the Gaza policy," Abbas Alawieh, uncommitted delegate from Michigan, said.

The group of about 40 delegates and supporters said they won't get up until Vice President Kamala Harris or someone from her team changes their mind.

3 key objectives Harris is expected to touch on during DNC speech

Vice President Kamala Harris is setting out to achieve three key objectives in her highly anticipated Democratic National Convention speech Thursday night, according to a campaign official.

The vice president will tell her story of being raised by a working mother in a middle-class neighborhood. Sharing how her background means she knows the everyday joys and challenges experienced by middle-class families like hers, explaining how she shares those values, the official said.

She will also discuss how she became a prosecutor in order to protect others, be they survivors of sexual abuse or homeowners impacted by the foreclosure crisis, a Harris-Walz official told ABC News.

She will point out the dangers posed by former President Donald Trump's campaign, specifically, the Project 2025 agenda, which will rip away people's freedoms, increase the cost of living, and take the country backward, the official said.

In contrast, the official told ABC News Harris will present a New Way Forward - an optimistic agenda that provides economic opportunity and protects fundamental freedoms for all Americans.

Harris will root her optimism about the future in her faith in the American people. She will work to make a stark contrast with Trump, sharing her belief in the promise of America, according to the campaign official.

And she knows that loving your country means being willing to fight for its fundamental ideals. She is driven by a deep sense of patriotism and a desire to be a President for all Americans, the official told ABC News.

Hundreds of protesters rallied at park and train station

More than 1,000 pro-Palestinian protesters marched Wednesday past a park where pro-Israel demonstrators had gathered earlier.

The demonstration, which stayed largely peaceful, came a day after violent clashes between police and protesters led to 56 arrests.

As marchers passed under a new elevated train station near the United Center that was completed just before the DNC, officers were seen bringing a person to the ground on the platform above. In response, hundreds of protesters pushed against the edge of the station, banging on the glass with their hands and flag poles as they called on police to free the person. The person left through the station's emergency exit moments later, accompanied by officers but not in handcuffs, prompting cheers from the crowd.
