NEW YORK (WABC) -- Election Day voting is coming to an end across the Tri-State and the nation with only scattered reports of technical problems.

One problem arose in Queens where voters reported issues with scanning their ballots on Tuesday morning. We are told machines would spit the paper ballots right back out and voters were left, in some cases, handing in paper ballots. The problem has been resolved.

Millions of people across the country are joining the more than 80 million who already voted early or by mail to decide who controls everything from the White House to Congress to state and local governments.

All eyes are, of course, on the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. According to 538's forecast , both candidates have a roughly equal chance to win.

The first polls closed in the Tri-State area at 8:00 p.m.

Control of U.S. House could come down to key New York Congressional races

New Yorkers could play an outsized role Tuesday in determining control of the U.S. House as Republicans cling to suburban seats they won two years ago by seizing on fears of crime, and Democrats try to claw them back by warning that a right-wing Congress might ban abortion.

If everything goes their way, Democrats hope to pick off a handful of Republican incumbents in congressional races on Long Island and in the Hudson River Valley, as well as a central New York district that state leaders recently reconfigured to make more favorable to Democrats.

Raegan Medgie has a look at some of those key races:
