NEW YORK (WABC) -- Zohran Mamdani has been elected mayor of New York City, defeating former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
With the victory, the democratic socialist will etch his place in history as the city's first Muslim mayor, the first of South Asian heritage and the first born in Africa. He will also become the city's youngest mayor in more than a century when he takes office on Jan. 1.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill has been elected governor of New Jersey.
The four-term member of Congress centered her campaign on her biography as a Navy helicopter pilot and former prosecutor who would stand up to President Donald Trump.
She will be New Jersey's second female governor.
Ciattarelli lost his second straight governor's election after coming within a few points of defeating Gov. Phil Murphy four years ago.
Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill's Gubernatorial Transition announced the launch of a transition website, which will serve as a temporary hub for information about the transition and opportunities for state residents to get involved.
Her team says a full website, with more information, will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
The site includes a resume submission portal for people interested in serving in the Sherrill Administration.
"Our transition is focused on building an administration that reflects the best of New Jersey-its innovation, diversity, and deep commitment to public service," Sherrill said."Our transition is an invitation for talented and passionate people from across the state to step up and help us move New Jersey forward together."
