NEW YORK (WABC) -- An AccuWeather Alert is in effect Thursday for heavy rain and strong storms hitting New York City and the Tri-State area.

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for all of New York City until 7:15 p.m. Flood Warnings are also in effect for parts of New Jersey.

A Severe Storm Watch is in effect for New York City and the Tri-State area through 8 p.m.

Flooding has been reported from the Major Deegan in the Bronx to Staten Island to parts of New Jersey.

Lightning strike causes house fire in NJ

Officials in Sayreville say a lightning strike is to blame for a house fire on Thursday afternoon.

One person was inside the house on Jensen Road when the fire broke out and she is said to be safe.

FDNY helps driver get to dry land after getting stuck in flood waters

On Staten Island, firefighters had to help a motorist get to dry land after his vehicle got stuck in flood waters.

It happened on Bedford Avenue between Husson Street and Hylan Boulevard.

No injuries were reported.

Flooding has been reported along Midland Avenue and Hylan Boulevard on Staten Island.
