Long Island's MacArthur Airport in talks to begin international flights

ISLIP (WABC) -- A plan is in the works to help revive a struggling Long Island airport.

On Friday, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone will announce that $1.5 million will be allocated from the country budget for MacArthur Airport in Islip.

County officials say the town of Islip has been negotiating with two international airlines to come to the airport. The town is also working on new domestic routes.

The $1.5 million would be used to set up facilities for customs, the new domestic routes and marketing for new airlines and routes.

Bellone will join with Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter to announce a partnership to bring in the additional routes and also better market the airport.
