ELIZABETH, N.J. (WABC) -- Three people were killed and a fourth wounded in less than 90 minutes in Elizabeth and Linden Thursday night, and authorities are investigating if any of the incidents are related.
The victims appear to be men, and no arrests were immediately made.
The first incident happened just before 10 p.m. on Sixth Street at South Park Street in Elizabeth, where 28-year-old Jamil Payne was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Then, at approximately 10:50 p.m., police received a second report of shots being fired, and officers responded to the 300 block of Clark Place in Elizabeth, where they found 32-year-old Kelvin Nelson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Approximately 10 minutes after that incident, a third report of gunfire was called in and patrol units were dispatched to the area of Jackson Avenue and Julia Street in Elizabeth. Arriving officers there found a 24-year-old Elizabeth man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark for emergency treatment.
Additionally, authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took place late Thursday night in Linden, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Friday. It was approximately 11:20 p.m. when Linden police patrol units responded to a shots-fired call at the 300 block of Price Street. They arrived to find 37-year-old James Garner suffering from gunshot wounds in a second-floor apartment unit.
Garner was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
All four shootings remain under investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, the Linden Police Department and the Elizabeth Police Department.
