New York Giants briefed on Ebola ahead of trip to Dallas to play Cowboys

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The New York Giants are being briefed on the Ebola virus before their trip to Dallas this weekend to play the Cowboys.

Giants senior vice president of communications Pat Hanlon said the team is providing background and information on the disease.

"Our athletic trainers and team physicians have been briefed on the scope of the Ebola virus disease," Hanlon said Wednesday. "We have distributed a fact sheet to our employees and distributed similar information to our players electronically this morning."

He said the NFL is working closely with Duke University's Infectious Disease Department and that the team will also rely on state and local health departments and the Centers for Disease Control for information.

The Giants will fly to Dallas Saturday and return after the game on Sunday

Fears of the virus deepened Wednesday with word that a second Dallas nurse caught the disease from a patient and flew across the Midwest aboard an airliner the day before she was diagnosed. President Barack Obama cancelled a campaign trip to address the outbreak.

Dr. Tom Frieden, head of the CDC, has acknowledged that the government was not aggressive enough in managing Ebola and containing the virus as it spread from an infected patient to a nurse at a Dallas hospital.

Emergency responders in hazardous-materials suits began decontamination work before dawn Wednesday at the Dallas apartment complex where the second nurse lives. Officials said she lives alone with no pets.
