NYC Public School students head back to school Thursday

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Students in New York City Public Schools will go back to school Thursday morning.

The city Department of Education serves 1.1 million students across 1,800 schools.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina recently announced gains on state English and math exams for students in recent years.

They are expected to tour some schools around the city Thursday.
