Lake Success hit and run leaves woman dead

LAKE SUCCESS (WABC) -- Police on Long Island are investigating a hit and run that left an elderly woman dead Thursday morning.

The incident happened on Lakeville Road near Farm Lane in Lake Success around 10:45 a.m.

The 74-year-old victim was rushed to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver fled the scene, and a witness gave police a registration plate number for a vehicle that possibly struck the victim.

Lake Success police were able to locate and stop the vehicle a short distance away on East Shore Road.

It was determined that the commercial vehicle was involved, and it was impounded at the scene.

There is no word on whether charges were going to be filed.

The investigation is ongoing.
