He loved his Trinidadian culture, and played in a drum band to bring joy to others. He played at a wedding in Princeton just two weeks ago. Now 43-year-old Doodnach Lalchan, known as 'Phantom', is gone.
Lalchan was killed on Mother's Day at 2:30 in the morning in South Ozone Park, Queens. Police say he was crossing 115th Ave by 131st Street after leaving a party, when he fell. Lalchan did not get up after he fell, and 19 seconds later, a car drover over him. Two minutes after that, a second car rolled over him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities put up an electronic sign asking for the public's help in searching for the two drivers.
Neighbors say it was not until a white car pulled up to the scene, that someone finally helped Lalchan.
Eyewitness News is told that the victim worked with his brother at an auto body shop.
It is not clear if the drivers knew what they had done, but it is clear they did not go back to the scene to investigate. Funeral arrangements are now being made for the victim.
A vigil was held to remember Lalchan Tuesday night by his friends and family.
