NORTH BERGEN (WABC) -- A Canadian woman was arrested in New Jersey over the weekend after police say she attacked and killed a baby duck.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. Saturday at the Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen.

Police were called to the scene of an injured animal, and a security guard informed responding officers that a man who wishes to remain anonymous witnessed and recorded video of Gloria Hernandez exiting her vehicle and attacking the group of birds on the south side of the building.

Afterwards, the 63-year-old Hernandez, who reportedly has a relative being treated at the hospital, left the scene.

The infant duckling was left badly injured, possibly with a broken neck, and could not be saved.

It died while being transported to Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus.

Hernandez is charged with third-degree animal cruelty. She faces up to three to five years in prison if convicted, although jail time is unlikely for a first-time offender.
