
WOODBRIDGE, New Jersey (WABC) -- One person was killed and three others injured in a crash in Woodbridge, New Jersey early Friday morning and sources say it started as a police chase.
Authorities say police were in pursuit of a Nissan Maxima when it crashed into another vehicle before 12:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 1, at Gill Avenue.
The impact was so explosive that each vehicle was torn to pieces leaving behind a mangled mess of metal.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, a 21-year-old female passenger of the Nissan, and three others were rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
Authorities also found the body of dog in the wreckage of the Nissan.
This is the second fatal crash in Woodbridge in as many days.
On Wednesday night, one person was killed and two others were injured in a crash on Route 27.
The highway reopened around 11 a.m. Friday after being shut down for about 11 hours.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. It's not yet known what led to the police pursuit.
