11 injured in violent clash between teens, officers at Bronx juvenile facility

MOTT HAVEN, The Bronx (WABC) -- Eleven people were injured in a violent clash between teens and officers at a juvenile facility in the Bronx.

Police arrived at the Horizon Juvenile Center on Brook Avenue just before 5 p.m. Sunday after a chaotic fight inside with injuries, including stab wounds.

ACS officers could be seen bloodied and hurt and were escorted away to get medical help.

Concerned parents ran over, including a mom who wanted to remain unidentified. She told Eyewitness News that her 17-year-old son is serving time inside, and she talks to him every day.

"And I found it weird that he didn't call me today. And then then ten minutes after I was trying to call here to find out what's going on, somebody called to say there's a riot up in here," she said.

The facility is a secure facility operated by the city's Administration for Children's Services that doesn't allow weapons inside -- not even the firearms of uniformed police officers.

The agency's deputy commissioner for the Division of Youth and Family Justice also responded to the scene, and an FDNY medical transport bus pulled up to the building... but there was no sign of any injured teens.

A concerned dad says his 17-year-old son is ok today, but has been injured inside the facility before. He says other kids have cut his son, and he claims staff members are too rough.

In his words, 'it's a correctional facility, meant to correct a child, not destroy them.' He asks, if visitors like him are thoroughly searched as they should be, how did a weapon get inside?

ACS says the situation at Horizon Juvenile Center has been resolved and the facility is now secured. It also says the safety and security of the youth and staff is the top priority.

There is no word on any criminal charges or what led to the violence.
