12 people displaced after fire rips through home, spreads to another in Jersey City
JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- At least a dozen people have been displaced after a fire ripped through a home and spread to another in New Jersey.
The three-alarm fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. on Friday on John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City.
Officials say that heavy fire was reported on all three floors in the rear of the building that originally had caught fire. There was then a minor spread of flames to a neighboring home.
Video captures firefighters on scene battling flames and assessing damage from the fire.
While there was no structural collapse in either home, extensive ceiling and wall pulling was conducted in the buildings, officials said.
A total of 10 adults and two children were displaced as a result of the fire. They were all safely evacuated and there are no reported injuries at this time.
Following the fire, the American Red Cross responded and provided those impacted with emergency financial assistance for temporary lodging, food, clothing and other necessities. The nonprofit is also providing mental health, spiritual and other care services to the fire victims.
Authorities are now trying to determine the cause of the fire.
