2 teenagers charged after 13 parked cars were hit in Brooklyn neighborhood, police say
BROOKLYN (WABC) -- Two teenagers were taken into custody after a car crashed into 13 parked vehicles Tuesday evening in Brooklyn, according to police.
The crash happened just before 7 p.m. on East 2nd Street between Avenue P and Quentin Road in the Gravesend neighborhood.
Police said a dark-colored Polestar sedan driven by a 17-year-old, with a 16-year-old passenger, collided with 13 parked vehicles. No injuries were reported.
The aftermath left damaged vehicles scattered along the block and disrupted the lives of residents who rely on their cars for work.
Yossi Levy, an HVAC worker, said his van was destroyed in the crash, leaving him unable to serve customers.
"This is my legs. And I haven't been working right now. And I'm just wrapping my head around this," Levy said.
Levy said he has been unable to respond to customer calls since losing his vehicle.
"Yeah, my phone is ringing and I can't even help. I can't do anything. I'm stuck," he said.
Other residents said they also faced financial and logistical challenges as a result of the damage.
"Man, it's sad, I didn't deserve it, you know, why would I have to go through the trouble, claim, insurance, for this just for little kids who was driving reckless," Yazan Alashkar said.
Police said the teens were driving at a high speed before the collision. Neighbors said the pair fled after the crash.
"They ran away. And then two of our neighbors, they tried to run after them around the block," Alashkar said.
Levy said he joined others in pursuing the teens until police arrived.

"The neighbors were shouting, hey, they ran, they ran. So, I started following them," Levy said.
Police said the teens were arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.
Residents said the crash highlighted ongoing concerns about reckless driving in the area. Alashkar said he would like to see traffic-calming measures installed on the street.
"I want to have, like, a speed bump over here, because it's not the first time we have so many cars, a lot of reckless driving," Alashkar said.
Although his vehicle was totaled and he is unable to work, Levy said he was relieved no one was injured.
"I was thankful that there was no kids out here. That's what I was mainly concerned because my daughter was coming from school," Levy said.
