2 women fatally struck in Newark hit-and-run
NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Two women were fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash in Newark over the weekend.
According to prosecutors, the women were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Park Avenue and North 7th Street in Newark at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 20.
Authorities said the driver did not stop after the crash and instead fled the scene, heading north on North 7th Street.
Mariana Elizabeth Valverde Beltran, 58, of Elizabeth and Maria Isabel DeLosAngeles Salgado Ayala, 61, of Newark were both pronounced dead.
Investigators have not provided a description of the vehicle involved, and no additional information was immediately available.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact authorities.
