7 On Your Side helps woman charged with violations on stolen plates break free

VALLEY STREAM, Long Island (WABC) -- A Valley Stream woman receiving traffic tickets linked to license plates that were no longer hers was on the wrong end of a constant flow of citations and tolls.

Teresa Pollard spoke with Eyewitness News reporter Krista McNally in April.

"A headache, nightmares, you name it," Pollard said.

It's how Pollard says she felt every time a ticket showed up at her door.

She'd been receiving red light camera tickets and toll infractions for the plates she reported stolen and surrendered nearly two years ago.

"And they're saying there's nothing we can do. Call this person, call that person. Still waiting on an answer, a solution," Pollard said.

Unable to fix his mom's license plate dilemma, Pollard's only son, Learon, is worried his mother could get pulled over and arrested.

"How are you going to keep doing this? Is this going to go on for 10 years?" asked Learon. "I said, 'One day you might go outside, and you have a boot on your car.'"

As if a pile of traffic tickets from MTA Bridges and Tolls wasn't bad enough for Pollard, a collection agency is now involved.

"It's happening over and over and over, and everywhere I turn, I can't get any help," she said.

Eyewitness News contacted the MTA and requested the agency break the link between the license plate number and Pollard's name.

In an official statement to 7 On Your Side by spokesperson Laura Cala-Rauch, the MTA said, "All erroneous tolls have been dismissed from Ms. Pollard's responsibility, and her old license plate has been flagged in our system to prevent any future erroneous tolls."

"So you are out of collections, and your old license plate is no longer associated with that stolen plate," Pineda told Pollard.

"Praise the Lord," Pollard said.

The MTA explained the situation was a result of one-off technical issues within the DMV and E-ZPass systems, which have been resolved.

"Hallelujah!" said Pollard.
