EAST FARMINGDALE, Long Island (WABC) -- Police in Suffolk County arrested nine people they say were involved in a street takeover on Friday.
Officials say drivers were performing stunts and doing donuts and burnouts along Central Avenue in the Plainview/East Farmingdale area around 11:30 p.m. that night.
The nine people are facing charges of conducting unlawful speed contest, which is a misdemeanor.
Police also impounded 12 vehicles and say 46 traffic tickets were issued for various infractions.
Authorities said the Street Takeover Task Force learned about the plans through intelligence gathering and social media monitoring.
Those arrested are scheduled to appear in court in Central Islip on a later date.
