ANDOVER, New Jersey (WABC) -- Some dogs are unaccounted for after a fire that broke out at an animal shelter in Sussex County, New Jersey on Wednesday.
The fire broke out around 3:40 p.m. at One Step Closer Animal Rescue (OSCAR) located at 155 Sparta Stanhope Rd. in Andover.
OSCAR is an active animal rescue facility housing about 40 dogs.
Officials say the fire originated in the kennel area where the animals were kept.
No dead animals have been reported, and officials say the majority of the dogs have been picked up by Hudson Farm and Happy Tails Rescue in Hackettstown. Newton Animal Hospital responded to the scene and transported one dog for treatment of burn injuries.
Officials say there may be several dogs loose in the area. In an effort to save the animals, they were released from their kennels prior to the fire spreading, according to police.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for the shelter.
