Bicyclist injured after open car door knocks him into path of oncoming car in Queens
EDGEMERE, Queens (WABC) -- A bicyclist in Queens was critically injured after a freak accident led to him being struck by a car in the Rockaways.
The 48-year-old victim was riding westbound on Beach Channel Drive just before 8 a.m. Friday.
Investigators say a 15-year-old girl who was sitting in the backseat of a parked car suddenly opened her door.
That knocked the victim into the path of an oncoming car.
EMS responded to the location and transported the cyclist to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He is in critical condition, with trauma to the head and body.
Both drivers remained on scene and no charges have been filed.
NYPD Highway District Collision's investigation remains ongoing.
