LONGWOOD, the Bronx (WABC) -- A pedestrian was found fatally struck by a car in the Longwood section of the Bronx early Tuesday.
Police say a 32-year-old woman was found on Bruckner Boulevard and Leggett Avenue around 12:10 a.m.
The victim was later identified as Dilmania Lopez de Rodriguez.
Police believe a driver was traveling northbound on Bruckner Boulevard in the right lane of the outer roadway when Lopez de Rodriguez was attempting to cross the street in the crosswalk.
Surveillance video appears to show a scooter on the truck's right side as they wait for the light to change. The truck then makes its turn, fatally striking the victim.
"Cars come around too fast. They don't really wait for people crossing, so a lot of times you've got to really rush to get across the street," said one resident.
Lopez de Rodriguez was discovered in the roadway and taken to Lincoln Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A relative says the 32-year-old wife and mother was on her way home from work when she was struck.
The truck never stopped, and some wonder if the driver was even aware of the fatal collision.
"It was close to the truck -- can't really say, but from my experience, I've driven those trucks, and it's hard to see someone," said business owner Alex Valdez.
Valdez runs an auto repair shop on the corner where there have been several accidents, including one in June.
The intersection sits below the elevated portion of the Bruckner Expressway, where a two-year, $1.7 billion redesign project was recently completed. It gives trucks a direct route to the Hunts Point Terminal Market, but many in the area say pedestrian access has become more treacherous.
"I used to cross the street when I was younger with my mom to go all the way over there to work, and it was not like this," said resident Andrea Jimenez. "This is crazy. This little thing right here is very chaotic."
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
