Community reacts to cat kicking video

STUYVESANT HEIGHTS (WABC) -- A 21-year old man is in custody after shocking video surfaced of a cat being kicked in Brooklyn.

NYPD detectives went to the man's housing complex after examining the video and are questioning him. A warning when watching the video: it is disturbing.

The man is seen cajoling a cat, petting it, and as the cat gets closer, kicking it like a football.

"It's unbelievable. If you look at that it's unbelievable", said one of the residents at the Brevoort Houses who watched the video.

What's worse is that the man and a friend sitting on the bench laugh with glee following the incident.

Residents told us the cat is a fixture at the complex but they don't know what happened to it after that kick. As for the kicker, they said they had never seen him before.

The video, posted on Facebook, sparked outrage Monday.

Police launched an investigation after Eyewitness News brought the video to their attention.
