Eyewitness News wins Folio Awards

LONG ISLAND, New York (WABC) -- It was a proud day for Eyewitness News, which accepted a number of Folio Awards on Long Island on Wednesday.

The Fair Media Council presents the Folio Awards to recognize excellence in journalism that captures the public's trust.

Eyewitness News reporters Stacey Sager, Chantee Lans, Sam Ryan and Joelle Garguilo all won for their reporting and storytelling.

Our own Sam Champion also received a lifetime achievement award.

"Never would I have thought getting here in 1988 that I'd still be standing here, I would have thought someone would fire me by now," Champion said. "I still believe -- no matter what people tell me and where we are in the day today -- that we will be doing this for generations to come, and it will be important."

A big congratulations to all of the winners, and to our colleagues.
