Flag retirement ceremony held on Long Island to commemorate the late Honorable Jerry Garguilo
SUFFOLK COUNTY (WABC) -- A flag retirement ceremony was held on Long Island on Tuesday for the late Honorable Jerry Garguilo.
The service was held inside the Brooklyn native's courtroom in Suffolk County.
In his 16 years on the bench, the New York Supreme Court Justice was known for his exemplary legal mind.
He skillfully handled the landmark opioid litigation during the pandemic, which was one of the largest cases of its kind and one of the most impactful tort cases in the state's history.
Here at Eyewitness News, he was known as Joelle Garguilo's loving father.
The national and state flags that were posted at Garguilo's bench were taken down, folded and presented to Joelle's mother, Angela, his wife of 52 years.
Judge Garguilo passed away suddenly in September, just shy of his 75th birthday.
