Search for New Jersey man who went missing last week at the Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON (WABC) -- The National Park Service (NPS) is asking for the public's help in finding a New Jersey man who went missing in Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona in July.

Thomas Daniel Gibbs, 35, of Freehold, New Jersey, was last heard from on July 22 in the Grandview Trail and Horseshoe Mesa area.

Gibbs' family and friends reported him missing on Monday, July 28, and his Tesla Cybertruck was found later that day in the Grandview Point parking lot on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Gibbs is described as a 6-foot-1 white man with brown hair and brown eyes.

Gibbs' disappearance comes as NPS shutters vast areas of the Grand Canyon National Park while the Dragon Bravo Fire rages on.

NPS says it closed the North Rim developed area to the public after the Dragon Bravo Fire demolished approximately 70 structures.

The massive blaze tore through the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and the North Rim Visitor Center, destroying many guest cabins.

Park rangers ask anyone with information on Gibbs to contact the NPS Investigative Services Branch Tip Line at 888-653-0009, online at www.nps.gov/ISB, or via email at nps_isb@nps.gov.
