
GREENVALE (WABC) -- A speed hiring event was held for a new marketplace opening in Greenvale.
Their goal is to hire 250 people.
Terri Lee is retired and says it's difficult to find a job when you are re-entering the workforce on Long Island.
"I look at the ladies working in the supermarkets, and I'm like, that would be a great job," Lee said.
The Bayville resident started searching for work at the places she loves to shop, which led her to Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace.
Cynthia Nunez, the store manager at Uncle Giuseppe's Greenvale, set up in a temporary trailer outside of the new Greenvale location, screening walk-in applicants.
People can come in with a resume and be interviewed on the spot.
The Italian specialty grocery store is also opening a store in Levittown this fall where they have wide variety of positions open and plan on hiring 1000 people by the end of the year.
And are in need of workers to get the Greenvale location up and running.
The 58,000 square foot space may look like a construction zone now, but by its opening in mid August and it will be Uncle Giuseppe's largest store.
As of May, there is a 3.5% unemployment rate in Nassau and Suffolk Counties according to the State Labor Department's preliminary data.
And if you're looking to land a job Nunez says during the interview process, personality is key.
The company has been doing speed interviews, Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., where applicants find out if they are hired on the spot.
