CHICAGO -- The man known as ''the godfather of Chicago house music'' has died.

Frankie Knuckles came to Chicago from New York in the 1970s. He was a driving force behind house music, a type of disco hybrid. The 200-block of South Jefferson, where The Warehouse dance club was located, was even named after Knuckles.

Frankie Knuckles was 59. A friend says Knuckles was just overseas and was sick.

He died Monday at his Chicago home in the 1600-block of West Ogden.
