SOUTH OZONE PARK, Queens (WABC) -- A man is in custody after police say he dragged a motionless dog down a residential block in Queens and set it on fire.
Police have charged 29-year-old Isaiah Gurley with torture, aggravated cruelty to animals and arson.
Officials say it happened last Thursday just before 5 a.m. at the corner of 128th Street and 116th Avenue in South Ozone Park.
Neighbors shared surveillance video where a man is seen dragging a dog on a leash behind him. Police say he then poured some sort of accelerant on the dog before lighting it on fire. The man then left the scene, leaving the animal behind.
This prompted a police search for the suspect and NYPD Animal Cruelty Squad investigation into the dog's death.
A spokesperson for the ASPCA said the organization is supporting police by performing a necropsy.
