A new law requiring hairdressers in New York to learn how to do all hair types including black hair is now in effect.
Starting Tuesday, anyone studying cosmetology in the state must be trained to work with diverse types of hair textures.
The number of hours needed to get a license won't change.
Instruction on how to do curly, wavy, coily and kinky hair must be integrated into the curriculum.
The goal of the law is to stop anyone from being turned away from a salon.
