New Year's Eve numerals arrive in Times Square ahead of 2026 celebration
NEW YORK (WABC) -- The numerals that will ring in the new year are ready for their closeup after arriving in New York City.
Officials did a practice activation in Times Square on Thursday morning to make sure everything was properly shining bright ahead of the new year celebration.
The numerals stand seven feet tall and have 589 bulbs among them. There are 145 bulbs in each of the twos, 164 in the zero and 135 in the number six.
They will be at street level until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, giving passersby an opportunity to take pictures with them.
Afterwards, the numerals will be hoisted up and placed on top of One Times Square, where they will be lit at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve.
